Avatar Land Begins Construction At Disney’s Animal Kingdom In 2014

Disney’s Animal Kingdom in Orlando, Florida has been an annual ritual for families to visit since opening on Earth Day in 1998. With over 500 acres which is entirely themed around animal conservation, it is no wonder why the park is a favorite to many. In 2011, it had almost 10 million guest making it the 7th most visited park in the entire world. You will see firsthand some of the most majestic animals from Africa; it is pretty awesome to see Cheetahs, Zebras, and the rest of the Madagascar gang in person. I can’t forget to mention DinoLand USA; the ride, “Dinosaur”, is one of the most popular in the park and will have you dodging meteors & ferocious carnivores.

The latest addition to the park is based off the 3d blockbuster called Avatar. The World of Pandora is set to come to life and construction began a couple of days ago. James Cameron is looking to build on the franchise and release a sequel. Avatar Land would be Disney’s answer for the World of Harry Potter at Universal Studios. This project is estimated to cost a whopping 400 million to build; so you know Disney is very serious about this project.

Disney had to close the Camp Minnie & Mickey section of the park so construction of The World of Pandora could begin. Sign me up, I am ready to ride a banshee zipping by floating mountains. Disney is going to extend park hours once the expansion is complete; so now you can enjoy the glowing plants when the sun is down. It will be interesting to see how the sequels of Avatar pan out; was the movie a one hit 3d wonder or can it become a successful series with a thought out story line? Disney is taking a gamble investing a major part of the parks property hoping the series will continue its success.

Last Friday, Walt Disney parks executives broke ground with ridiculously large blue shovels at the site. Buzz has been swirling, and many Disney fanatics are trying to dig up secret concept art about the project. It is expected that you can make a trip to Pandora some time in 2017, but until then we will keep you updated with the latest news.
