2014 Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend

While the rest of the country is shoveling away snow from their front doors, thousands of competitive runners will be attending the annual Disney World Marathon. The Marathon is so popular that spots to participate in it are sold out within a couple days. Who wouldn’t want to make a trip to the most magical place on earth every January? This marathon has become a yearly tradition to many and it continues to grow its loyal following.

The coolest thing about this marathon is that you actually have the opportunity to run in all four Disney World parks. Usually most of us cherish every single second in our favorite Disney Park, but today time is of the essence and these runners are the true definition of a fast pass.  Can you believe just a couple of years ago over 50,000 competitors registered for this event? I don’t know about you but it would be hard for me to run with a turkey leg in one hand and Mickey Mouse ice cream bar in the other.  Runners will be cheered on by their favorite Disney characters along the course; this would be a perfect opportunity getting a Facebook photo with the Big Cheese and bragging to your friends up north.

It is hard to believe but running may not be for everyone, so you could catch me listening to the bands and watching the other events being held in the park.  These competitors will have to stay motivated, but that shouldn’t be hard because this is a once in a life time experience. The new Dopey Challenge is a staggering total of 48.6 miles! To receive your precious six medals, you must complete all four races over the weekend.  Today starts the family 5k run, this will give you enough time to break in your new running shoes. The race starts with the half marathon at 13.1 miles on Saturday, followed by the Full Marathon (26.2 miles) on Sunday. Goofy’s Race gives you the opportunity to compete in the half and full marathons totaling 39.3 miles.

I think Disney should add strollers to the mix, one could only image how that would end. Well, usually at the parks we all experienced the stroller Demolition derby, some of those people behind it are dangerous. Anyways, this is a really cool event so make sure to go down and check it out and maybe this could be your New Year’s resolution to come back and compete in it next year.
